As providers of custom motorbike & racing motorcycle parts for all of the leading brands, entering the Newmarket Soapbox Derby just makes sense for Fastec Racing, and sister companies Fastec Engineering and Newmarket Motorcycle Company. Add in the talents behind Van Driel Engineering Ltd, and you’ve got a pretty good recipe for the win.
Speaking to owner Danny Starmer, one afternoon it was great to hear so many companies coming together for the build. “We were at a wedding with the owners of Van Driel Engineering (Mark), and just sketched up a design, putting all our ideas onto paper,” Danny explains. “Mark used to do chassis design for cars so it just made sense, and it was going to be a fun project.”
Getting under the weight limit has been the team’s toughest challenge yet, but the Soapbox is well on its way to complete construction. Now pulling together a motivation pit team, including Danny and Mark’s wives, the final designs are being added to the chassis.
When asked if they’re going to test their creation, Danny laughed: “We’ll probably wing it! But we have a lot of faith.” Having pulled together the design and majority of the build in just under two weeks, it is definitely impressive.
With the Newmarket Motorcycle Company also one of the sponsors for the event, be sure to look out for Danny and his team on site, displaying a fantastic collection of custom made and Bullit Motorcylces, as well as accessories and parts. Good luck!
